The questions listed below are the most frequently asked questions about our 4D ultrasound packages. If you have any questions that aren't listed please feel free to contact us.

What is a 4D ultrasound?

A 4D ultrasound is the latest in prenatal ultrasound technology. "4D" is shorthand for "four-dimensional" – the fourth dimension being time. 4D takes the traditional 3D ultrasound images and adds the element of time to the process. This allows you to see your beautiful unborn baby in amazing real time detail.

What should I know before I come to my appointment?

For your knowledge, please note the following:

1. We recommend that before having your 3D 4D ultrasound you should have the diagnostic ultrasound performed between 18 – 20 weeks of the pregnancy. We feel it is extremely important that you have the diagnostic ultrasound to avoid finding out anything at our location that was not previously found during your routine, doctor-ordered ultrasound.


2. We do not do ANY diagnostic ultrasound. Any questions our clients have concerning the health, weight, size, or overall well-being of the fetus are all referred back to their OB/GYN. We encourage you to show your doctor your ultrasound pictures if they have any concerns.


3. All of our technicians are certified in 3D/4D Ultrasound and are amongst the most experienced at getting you the best possible 3D Ultrasound pictures.

Is ultrasound safe?

Yes, ultrasound has been used safely for over 35 years. Many women have multiple ultrasounds during their pregnancy with no negative effect on the baby. A 4D ultrasound utilizes sound waves to look inside the body (similar to sonar technology). A probe placed on the body emits sound waves into the body, listens for the return echo and generates an image.

What is the best time for an ultrasound?

The best time to see your baby's face and features is between 26 and 34 weeks. The range is dues to a variety of factors that impact the ultrasound images taken such as the size of your baby, fluids around the baby, positioning of the baby, hydration of the mother, etc. From 28-36 weeks, babies are developing the fat layer that fills in their features so you will be able to see more facial details. For twins, the best time is before 28 weeks of the pregnancy.

Who conducts the ultrasound sessions?

Trained sonographers graduated from an accredited sonography school. Untrained and unqualified sonographers can take 2-3 times as long as a registered sonographer to obtain images of your baby.

Does this take the place of an ultrasound at my doctor's office?

Absolutely not! Love At First Sight requires that each patient has consulted with their respective physician or midwife prior to participating in our services. At no time is this exam to be used in place of a complete diagnostic ultrasound. What we evaluate in our ultrasound session include a limited diagnostic scan to confirm heartbeat, the number of babies in the pregnancy, the position of the baby, and the placental location.

Why are some ultrasound images better than others?

Due to the variety of factors that impact the ultrasound images taken, some baby's ultrasound images may appear more clear and defined. The baby's images that we see are all different, beautiful, and simply amazing!

Should I make an appointment in advance?

Yes, appointments should be made as soon as possible! Visit our Contact page for information regarding our location and office hours.

How many guests can I bring to my ultrasound session?

Everyone who comes for a sonogram is welcome to bring up to 5 people to share in the special experience. The benefits that you will share by viewing your unborn child will result in prenatal bonding between mother, father, siblings and the unborn child.

What packages does Love At First Sight offer?

We offer various packages in order to meet your specific needs. Please refer to the Services page for the prices and packages offered.

What about twins or multiples?

Scans should be done between 20-28 weeks. There is a small additional cost for twins.

What type of clothing is recommended on the day of my appointment?

A comfortable, two piece outfit to allow the sonographer accessibility to your baby. Dresses are not recommended.
